PDP for Tech, 1/21/2011 - Group meeting in the elementary lab. We are learning about WiKi's and how to set them up and how to get into discussions. Marcia is teaching us and is so patient and helpful. She has taught us about the WiKi resources, setting up pages for our students, how to communicate with each other, and how to write our notes from this PDP. We have also learned about other options within student pages and how to create a group or individual pages. I also learned about school fusion and setting up my school profile, which I did. We also learned how to use our pages as a possible newsletter, which parents will eventuallyl have access to. And finally, we viewed another lesson on the school fusion, which all of us will be doing by next year. There are so many possibilites for us to set up our web pages and write what is going on in each of our classes. This is the greatest technology for us! and what a great resource for our parents, as well!
PDP for Tech, 1/27/2011 Group meeting in the elementary lab again. Tonight we have practiced wiki spaces and looked at several educational wikis created by other schools. This has given us the opportunity to see how other schools have used their wiki spaces, not only with their students, but also as learning sites and pages that profile their themes. This has been very useful and a wonderful way to learn how to create wikis in several different venues.
PDP for Tech, 1/28/2011 Group meeting in the elementary lab. We talked about putting our personal picture with our school profile page. We also talked wiki fusion, merging, and our own school fusion pages. We worked on our school fusion class page and set those up for our school profile.
PDP for Technology Class - 2/17/2011 - Group meeting in Molly Swan's class. We used the smartboard to practice and learn math pages, language arts pages, several different smart tech sites, how to use the smartboard with students, and how to set up the smartboard with students.
PDP for Tchnology Class - 3/4/2011 - Group meeting starting out in the elementary library lab. Marcia noted that she has added several new resources to her WiKi page, including a resource called Storybird. On this site she showed us how she wrote a story, using art pictures from storybird. She indicated that this site could be used with students as a whole class, or by themselves, or in a group. This resource is really neat and has lots of potential for student writing. Marcia also showed another resource on her WiKi called Wordles, using word clouds to write in, make banners, fancy up names, lots of ways to use this with our students. We then reconvened over to the high school library and met MaryEllen Gregoire, who introduced us to MyOn Reader, from Capstone Publishers. She walked us through the program, how to use it, how to put students on it, level them, track them, and review reports. This really is an exciting site that could be used by students independently, on a computer in a classroom, or by Danna in the computer lab. We also wondered if it could be used by students in the summer and the answer was an affirmative yes! We practiced reading some of the books and taking the quizes. MaryEllen then left us time to set up class groupings ( I worked with Susan and Jenny as they set up their class groups). I see this as one more resource to keep students reading, track them, plan interventions, and move them through their levels. As an SLP, I can go in and look to see where my students are and how they are doing. Very cool site.
